Stillwater Medical Center Implements the Summit Scripting Toolkit 7.0 as they prepare for the New MEDITECH 5.6/6.0 Platform
Background and Challenge:
Stillwater Medical Center (SMC) is a not for profit, city owned 119 bed facility catering to the general healthcare population over six surrounding counties. Stillwater Medical Center runs the MEDITECH Healthcare Information System and recently upgraded to the new C/S 5.6.4 platform with future plans to migrate to MEDITECH 6.0. As Stillwater Medical Center planned for their MEDITECH upgrade they were looking to improve processes and eliminate redundant workflow throughout the hospital. SMC already had an established relationship with Summit Healthcare as their integration vendor running the Summit Integration Suite (Interface Engine) so it was a perfect fit to implement the Summit Scripting Toolkit (SST) to streamline workflow and processes. Also, they were confident in Summit Healthcare’s track record with the new MEDITECH 5.6/6.0 platforms and knew that the Summit Scripting Toolkit 7.0 would deliver and exceed expectations.
The Solution:
Stillwater Medical Center implemented the Summit Scripting Toolkit 7.0 (SST 7) to solve their redundant workflow challenges. The two main areas of the hospital benefiting immediately from SST were the Pharmacy and Billing/Accounts Receivable departments. SMC has been able to save time, resources and money by automatically updating the Pharmacy drug dictionary formulary item costs and transferring account notes to MEDITECH B/AR.
The new MEDITECH 5.6/6.0 platform screen changes had a dramatic effect on the scripting industry. It became apparent very early in the MEDITECH 5.6.1 version that the old way of scripting was not going to be reliable and stable enough to ensure patient safety and data integrity. The Summit Scripting Tool 7.0 (SST 7) reads the entire MEDITECH screen and captures the unique cursor position of the elements on the screen to ensure stability and consistency in the scripts. SST7 captures the focused text so it has field consciousness and captures the text from the correct field to ensure reliability every time scripts are run. Easy to use features such as the Visual Workflow Designer allow users to define logical segments of their workflow and then drill down to individual tasks providing the user the ability to understand the intended purpose of the script. Also, the logical segments are 100% reusable, thus eliminating time-consuming rework by the user. Scripts are deployed as XML documents, which makes recompiling unnecessary and is a great time saver for IT!
Engagement Highlights:
- Automated Pharmacy drug dictionary updates and B/AR account notes result in cost savings by eliminating redundant manual entry and allowing staff to work on priority projects and redistribute work hours.
- Stillwater Medical Center was prepared for the new MEDITECH 5.6/6.0 platforms and was confident that their integration and automation projects would be reliable, consistent and stable.
