The Challenge:
Sarah Bush Lincoln, a 187 bed acute care facility with 120 providers, 22 clinic sites and 1600 employees needed a quick and easy way to retrieve clinical information in the event of a scheduled or non scheduled downtime. Due to the increasing amount of electronic data stored in the EMR, they needed a way to maintain the quality of care their patients receive at all times. During downtime they did not have a way to view clinical information on the computer. They were printing excessive amounts of documents and had to sort out the pertinent information. Extra staff needed to come in the night before a scheduled downtime to print, sort and distribute the documents to the appropriate staff.
The Solution:
The Summit Downtime Reporting System was implemented to provide easy access to critical information by the staff that needs it. Reports are being generated hourly, daily or periodically based on the type of data. During a scheduled or non scheduled downtime, the clinical employees now have the appropriate access to view reports via icons on their Summit DRS Quick Launch desktop. This information is immediately available at any time. They can quickly find the report needed and search for a specific patient. They also have the ability to print the information if necessary.
Sarah Bush Lincoln has set up nine computers in each of the following clinical units to allow staff to access Summit DRS Quick Launch: ER, ACU EAST, ACU WEST, CCU, SNU, W&C, Pharmacy, LAB, and BHC. The Summit Downtime Reporting System allows only the selected staff to review the documentation proving protection to the critical patient data.
