Salina Regional Health Center Selects Summit Healthcare To Meet Downtime System Needs

Summit Healthcare, a leader in healthcare system integration and task automation, today announced an alliance with Salina Regional Health Center (SRHC), the leading acute care hospital of north-central Kansas, to address business continuity and ensure system access during planned and unplanned downtime of its MEDITECH health care information system (HCIS) or network. SRHC will be implementing the Summit Healthcare Downtime Reporting System (DRS) as part of its overall disaster recovery strategy.

SRHC was aware of the impact that a failure to its MEDITECH HCIS or hardware could have on care delivery. In order to ensure system access to crucial patient information during downtimes, SRHC needed a robust, encrypted continuity solution in place to capture patient reports and data for all departments. Summit Healthcare’s Downtime Reporting System will provide faculty at SRHC with access to pertinent reports immediately for both planned system or network downtime and unexpected outages. The reports are securely distributed using advanced encryption algorithms to local downtime machines throughout designated areas of the hospital. Accessed via individual username and password authentication, the critical reports are available to view and/or print, which enable staff to continue operations during downtime.

The documentation that SRHC intends to support with DRS includes: discharge summaries, downtime profile reports (Kardex), eMARs, nurses’ notes, plans of care and unit census. The hospital plans to expand the application of DRS after the initial implementation.

“Patient safety is of utmost importance at Salina Regional Health Center and we needed to ensure staff have continuous access to critical data should we experience a scheduled or unscheduled downtime of our HCIS or network. Our end goal is providing quality systems that enable our care givers to provide the very best in patient care,” said Michael McEldowney, Director of Information Services, Salina Regional Health Center. “I see the Summit Downtime Reporting Solution as the right system to fill a gap we recognized in our strategic plan. By implementing DRS, we can feel confident that operations can continue during a downtime while we work to address getting the system restored.”

“Summit Healthcare is thrilled to partner with Salina Regional Health Center and bring our Downtime Reporting technology to this well-regarded healthcare facility. We look forward to continuing our partnership with this MEDITECH HCIS customer to address any future integration, automation and business continuity needs,” said Ted Rossi, CEO, Summit Healthcare.
