Stillwater Medical Center Implements Summit Express Connect and Summit Hot Box; Sees Immediate ROI and Ensured Reliability

Background and Challenge:

Stillwater Medical Center (SMC) is a not for profit, city owned 119 bed facility catering to the general healthcare population over six surrounding counties. Stillwater Medical Center runs the MEDITECH Healthcare Information System and recently upgraded to the new C/S 5.6.4 platform with future plans to migrate to MEDITECH 6.0. As Stillwater Medical Center planned for their MEDITECH upgrade they were looking to improve processes and eliminate redundant workflow throughout the hospital. SMC already had an established relationship with Summit Healthcare as their integration vendor running the Summit Integration Suite (Interface Engine) so it was a perfect fit to implement the Summit Scripting Toolkit (SST) to streamline workflow and processes. Also, they were confident in Summit Healthcare’s track record with the new MEDITECH 5.6/6.0 platforms and knew that the Summit Scripting Toolkit 7.0 would deliver and exceed expectations.

The Solution:

Stillwater Medical Center implemented the Summit Express Connect interface engine and the Summit HotBox. Summit Express Connect is a robust interface engine allowing Stillwater Medical Center to see an immediate ROI as they were now able to leverage their existing interfaces and connect to multiple other vendor systems simply, worry free and better yet, cost effective. Currently SMC has over 25 interfaces running through the Summit Healthcare interface engine and are processing 50,000 messages a day. The other vendor systems that SMC is interfacing with their MEDITECH HIS are PACS, Tulsa Regional Lab, MagView, Nuanace PowerScribe, Nuance iChart, eForms, CERMe, Pyxis, QuickEMR, Centricity Cardiology, Intellidot and RALS.

To meet the interface system backup needs, Stillwater Medical Center implemented the Summit HotBox a robust, dependable failover server. The Summit HotBox has a dual role, first functioning as the development and testing environment of new interfaces and secondly, should the production hardware server fail, the second server will be the failover server to ensure that Live interfaces can be restored in minutes.

Engagement Highlights:

  • Immediate ROI savings by leveraging existing interface feeds and long term dollar savings in annual interface maintenance costs.
  • Streamlined staff workflow by saving time when managing and troubleshooting interface issues.
  • Less time spent being the liaison for interface customization between MEDITECH and the Other Vendor Systems. SMC can make interface changes directly in the Summit Integration Suite product.
  • Summit HotBox provides a worry free, reliable interface system backup. The failover server allows for Live interfaces to be restored in minutes in the event of a downtime.

Testimonials

We are extremely pleased with both the Summit Healthcare Express Connect interface engine and the knowledgeable Summit Healthcare professional services division. Our Interface Engine migration from Biztalk 2002 to Biztalk 2006 including our installation of the Summit HotBox (failover server) was smooth and worry free. We look forward to a long standing integration partnership between Stillwater Medical Center and Summit Healthcare.
