Schneck Medical Center Uses Summit Express Connect Interface Engine to Centralize Interfaces

The Challenge:

Schneck Medical Center is a 113-bed, non-profit medical center serving quality healthcare in Seymour, Indiana since 1911. Schneck provides a wealth of services from surgical procedures and laboratory tests to wellness programs and support groups for residents of Southern Indiana.

Schneck was seeking a healthcare integrator with tools to help the organization gain control of its interface environment and automate various processes. In order for Schneck to meet its long-term interconnectivity goals, the organization needed to align itself with a reliable vendor with a track record in creating scalable integration technology to bridge multiple systems.

The Solution:

In order to handle complex point-to-point interfaces effectively, Schneck turned to the Summit Apex suite, Summit Healthcare’s integrated product set that provides a comprehensive offering for HIS integration and automation. Specifically, Summit Express Connect, a robust, powerful interface engine, has provided Schneck the power and flexibility to develop and manage all of its interfaces in one easy-to-use application.

The organization runs 22 inbound and 22 outbound interfaces through the engine and receives approximately 27,500 messages and sends approximately 30,000 messages daily. During the integration process, Schneck teamed up with the following 12 vendors: GE CPN, Dolbey, Access EForms, Epiphany, Lynx, Milliman, GE PACs, Philips, Pyxis, Varian, Mayo labs, and Meridian.

Summit Express Connect will continue to support Schneck for years to come as the organization begins to build interconnectivity with a regional health exchange, physicians’ offices and other entities. Summit Healthcare’s technology will also play an integral role in Schneck’s initiative to automate processes such as remittance posting.

Since implementing the Express Connect, Schneck has experienced a number of significant benefits. One new interface alone saved the organization $10,000 and $1,200 per year in support cost savings. Also, Schneck has eliminated additional ADT feeds with MEDITECH, which further reduces annual support costs. The medical center is currently exploring four additional interfaces to add to its system.

"As we began our search for an integration partner, we knew we needed to find a company with the tools to help with our current interface needs as well as solutions that would act as a foundation for future integration initiatives.  We chose Summit Healthcare not only for its robust Apex product suite, but also because of its strong presence, deep experience and record of success in the MEDITECH space, which was important to us as a long-time MEDITECH user.
