Project Description
University of Maryland Charles Regional Medical Center Relies on Summit Healthcare’s Outsourcing Services for Integration throughout the Hospital
The Challenge:
University of Maryland Charles Regional Medical Center, a 125-bed community hospital in southern Maryland, was implementing MEDITECH and wanted to implement an interface engine at the same time to take advantage of integration with other hospital systems, such as their Pharmacy medication dispensing machine Pyxis. They choose the Summit Healthcare Express Connect interface engine as well as Summit Healthcare’s professional Outsourcing Services to make their implementation go as smoothly as possible without draining internal resources. University of Maryland Charles Regional Medical Center did not want to have to program and build the interfaces themselves. They wanted their resources to be available for other tasks and wanted experts to do the interface development.
The Solution:
University of Maryland Charles Regional Medical Center uses Summit Healthcare’s Outsourcing Services to handle all of their HL7 interface needs. A dedicated engineer from Summit Healthcare is assigned to University of Maryland Charles Regional Medical Center and takes care of their interface development by providing all the filters and mapping needed for the interfaces as well as communication with the vendors of the 3rd party systems. The dedicated Summit Healthcare engineer assigned to University of Maryland Charles Regional Medical Center knows their interfaces and configuration and is readily available for any questions, modifications or problems.
University of Maryland Charles Regional Medical Center is currently interfacing their MEDITECH system with a number of 3rd party vendors including Valco, Fuji, Pyxis, MedQuest and Spheris.
Alerting and monitoring is being handled by the Summit Healthcare interface engine and will send an email to the hospital staff if there is an issue with an interface. In addition, University of Maryland Charles Regional Medical Center has the Summit Healthcare HotBox that acts as a full back-up environment to ensure that the data integration can continue to function in the event of a software or hardware failure.
