The Challenge:

University of Maryland Charles Regional Medical Center, a 125-bed community hospital in southern Maryland, was implementing MEDITECH and wanted to implement an interface engine at the same time to take advantage of integration with other hospital systems, such as their Pharmacy medication dispensing machine Pyxis. They choose the Summit Healthcare Express Connect interface engine as well as Summit Healthcare’s professional Outsourcing Services to make their implementation go as smoothly as possible without draining internal resources. University of Maryland Charles Regional Medical Center did not want to have to program and build the interfaces themselves. They wanted their resources to be available for other tasks and wanted experts to do the interface development.

The Solution:

University of Maryland Charles Regional Medical Center uses Summit Healthcare’s Outsourcing Services to handle all of their HL7 interface needs. A dedicated engineer from Summit Healthcare is assigned to University of Maryland Charles Regional Medical Center and takes care of their interface development by providing all the filters and mapping needed for the interfaces as well as communication with the vendors of the 3rd party systems.
