Peterborough Regional Health Centre Partners with Summit Healthcare to Integrate with ConnectingOntario

Summit Healthcare’s Interface Engine Technology Supports Canadian Hospital’s Interoperability Goals
Braintree, Mass., January 9, 2018 – Summit Healthcare, a leader in healthcare integration and automation solutions, has announced an enhanced partnership with Peterborough Regional Health Centre (PRHC). PRHC is a long-time client of Summit Healthcare, and has been leveraging their interface engine technology to assist with their interoperability goals. They recently requested Summit Healthcare’s services to develop additional interfaces to supplement their care coordination efforts, and enable them to successfully integrate with ConnectingOntario.
Located in Ontario, Canada, PRHC is a state-of-the-art regional hospital with a capacity of 494 beds, and serving a population of over 300,000 people. Their regional hospital has one of the busiest Emergency Departments in Ontario, and offers an extensive range of services, including specialized programs in renal, stroke, cardiac, cancer care and vascular surgery.
PRHC is dedicated to providing the best quality of care to all of their patients, and are proud to be part of a system that is focused on quality, accountability, transparency and results. Serving such a large community, it was important for the organization to be able to provide secure access to a patient’s health information in the event they presented at a different hospital or clinic.
ConnectingOntario enables province-wide information sharing by building and linking systems, so that clinicians, whether in a doctor’s office, community clinic or hospital, can access a patients’ personal health information anywhere, anytime. Having immediate access to complete, up-to-date, and accurate information puts clinicians in a better position to provide the best possible care.
“We’re excited to be one of the sites that has successfully gone live on the new ConnectingOntario platform”, said Lindsay Wyers, Director Decision Support & Health Information, Interim Director IT at PRHC. “Summit Healthcare as a whole has been great to work with, from a solid technology platform to excellent resources supporting the product.”
By leveraging Summit Healthcare’s interface engine technology, ADT reports, Medical Records reports, and Diagnostic Imaging reports from MEDITECH are all being sent to ConnectingOntario from three different hospitals in the system; Peterborough Regional Health Center, Northumberland Hills Hospital, and Campbellford Memorial Hospital. On average, over 17,000 messages per day are being communicated between these systems. They have plans to implement Pharmacy messages in the future, once ConnectingOntario is able to receive that data.
“In today’s healthcare industry, hospitals and other facilities need the ability to securely share information between systems to meet compliance standards, work effectively with care partners and provide the best possible patient service”, said Ted Rossi, CEO at Summit Healthcare. “We’re dedicated to helping organizations get the most out of our technology to accomplish these initiatives”.
