Summit Healthcare Introduces Summit Provider Alert to Enhance Communication Between Hospitals and the Care Community

Braintree, Mass., August 23, 2016 – Summit Healthcare today announced the launch of Summit Provider Alert, a new solution for improving the workflow between hospitals and providers and enabling better patient care. Provider Alert is a web-based application that allows hospitals to deliver real-time patient-specific data and critical documents to their providers regarding a significant hospital event. The new software will aid in the reduction of re-admission rates, lower costs, and improve relationships between the patient and primary care provider. Additionally, the solutions offered by Provider Alert will also support the conditions required for Meaningful Use Stage 3. Parkview Medical Center, based in Colorado, is one of the first hospitals to implement this innovative new product.
Key features of this software include direct communication between the hospital and physician’s offices through electronic notifications, timely sharing of critical patient information and documentation, and a method for proactive patient follow up, which increases the effectiveness of post-hospital care and patient education. With the tool, hospitals will be able to deliver notifications to physician’s offices in their area to alert them if any of their patients had been seen or treated at their facility. Providers also have the ability to view documents in summary form.
“A common theme we had been hearing from providers was that they were not made aware when one of their patients experienced a medical event,” said Brian Rogers, Director of Project Strategy at Summit Healthcare. “Summit’s Provider Alert is able to proactively send a notification to any physician’s office, alerting them that their patient had been treated at the hospital. By arming providers with this hospital data and information, they can make better informed decisions and provide better care for their patients, which is of utmost importance.”
Parkview Medical Center is a leading hospital and an integral member of Pueblo and the surrounding communities, and it is their mission to provide easy access to exceptional healthcare while keeping up with the latest technological trends and advancements. Parkview Medical Center has partnered with Summit Healthcare since 2004 to reach these goals, and already uses a suite of Summit Healthcare’s products, such as Express Connect, Care Exchange, Provider Exchange, InSync, and Summit Scripting Toolkit. Now, with the addition of this service, Parkview Medical Center is effectively maximizing its ability to create a secure and efficient workflow, greatly improving quality of care and enhancing relationships with patients and providers.
“What got us excited about Provider Alert was that it would fix the whole process of how we’ve been sending and receiving data between ourselves and our providers. The solution offers secure, fast, and efficient sharing of documents, which removed the need for other unreliable third party software,” said James Hruby, Project Manager at Parkview Medical Center. “Parkview needed a reliable and consistent way to send a specific document, or summary of a document, securely and in real time. With Provider Alert, we can do just that.”
When a physician’s office requires patient information such as lab reports, radiology, physician documentation (PDOCs), or CCDs, providers would have to call the hospital and request the information which would either be sent via fax, which is labor intensive, or a third party system, many of which allow little control over document manipulation. In return, physician’s offices are receiving many large, unmanageable documents, including duplicate information. Summit Provider Alert will significantly improve the processes Parkview Medical Center, and many other hospitals, have implemented, which will allow them to better deliver on their goals to provide quality healthcare services and improve the health of the people they serve.
